Annapolis, Md. – (November 11, 2023) – The Fordham squash team earned their first three wins of the season on Saturday at the Navy Round Robin in Annapolis, Maryland, evening the team's record at 3-3.
The Rams began Saturday with a 6-3 win over Bucknell.
Fordham was led by
Nicholas Gilman at the top of the ladder, as he defeated Andrew Rebak in five games, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 8-11, and 13-11.
The Rams then picked up wins from the fourth through eighth slot matches, getting wins from
Peter Vorbach (4
th),
Jack Stanley (5
th),
Robert Cruikshank (6
th),
Gray Kearns (7
th), and
Sofia Arseniev (8
th).
In match two, Fordham swept a 9-0 decision from the Navy "B" squad.
This time, it was Vorbach leading the charge at the first slot, defeating Alexandre Toner, 11-5, 11-0, and 11-1, while
Jack Stanley earned a second slot win over Alexander Hoot, 11-5, 11-2 and 11-4. Additional wins for Fordham came from Cruikshank (3
rd), Kearns (4
th), Arseniev (5
th),
Caleb Schumacher (6
th),
Crispin McCarthy (7
th),
Nicholas Choo (8
th), and
Edwin Hess (9
th).
The day wrapped with Fordham's third straight win, a 6-3 decision over Georgetown.
Gilman was back in first position with a win, topping Dietrich Jacobs, 11-6, 11-6, before Jacobs was forced to retire the match to Gilman. Vorbach picked up his third win of the afternoon at fourth position with an 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, and 11-5 victory over Heath Otenasek.
Cruikshank, Kearns, and Arseniev all recorded their third wins of the day at the sixth through eighth positions, while Schumacher picked up a default point at ninth position.
The Rams conclude their stay at the Navy Round Robin on Sunday morning against Denison at 10:00 AM.
