Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – (October 28, 2023) – The Fordham squash team opened its 2023-24 season on Saturday at Vassar College for a pair of matches. The Rams came up short in both contests, falling to Vassar, 8-1, and St. Lawrence, 9-0.
In the opening match,
Peter Vorbach earned the Rams' lone point, rallying from behind to defeat Razaan Lalji in five games, 11-3, 10-12, 8-11, 12-10, and 11-6, at fifth position.
Fordham just missed out on more points in three other matches, including the first, second, and third positions.
Nicholas Gilman dropped a four-game match to Rithik Jalali at the top spot, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, and 11-1, while
Bennett Van Liew also fell in four games to Jay Vashisht at the second spot, 11-6, 13-11, 11-13, and 11-4.
Henry Frawley had a two-game lead on Konstan Georgallides, but Georgallides came back to win in five games at third position, 9-11, 11-13, 11-1, 11-7, and 11-9.
In match two on the day, the Rams were swept in all nine matches by 3-0 counts.
The closest match came at the seventh position, where
Caleb Schumacher fell to Gavin Cassidy, 11-5, 11-6, and 11-6.
The Rams are next in action on November 10
th, when they play at Navy to kick off the Navy Round Robin.
