Bronx, N.Y. – (October 12, 2023) – The Fordham swimming & diving team opens its 2023-24 season on Friday night at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center against the Manhattan Jaspers.
The Fordham women head into the new campaign after another undefeated dual meet season and a fifth place finish at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship. The Rams have won 21 consecutive dual meet wins dating back to 2020 and have lost only one dual meet since the start of the 2018-19 season (34-1). The lone loss was a one point loss to Boston College in January 2020.
Led by captains
Alison Lin and
Luisa Rosa, the Fordham women return multiple Atlantic 10 medalists from last year's team including silver medalist
Ainhoa Martin in the 200 breaststroke event and bronze medalists
Emma Shaughnessy (100 breaststroke) and
Leire Martin (400 individual medley).
Additionally, Fordham has a number of talented newcomers for the new season, highlighted by graduate transfers
Manon Compagner (NCAA Division II champion in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly),
Jane Brown (Pac-12 Championship finalist for Arizona State), and
Mia Galat (All-BIG EAST selection at UConn).
The Fordham men are coming off one of their finest campaigns in 2022-23, after posting an 8-1 regular season record and setting 11 school records at the Atlantic 10 Championship. The 8-1 dual meet record was Fordham's best mark since the 1990s and saw their first-ever dual meet win at Massachusetts since joining the Atlantic 10. The Rams also finished fifth at the Atlantic 10 Championship, the team's best finish since 2017, and saw three event wins (100 breaststroke, 400 medley relay, and 400 freestyle relay).
Led by captains
Alexander Shah and
Ryan Davidoff, Fordham returns school record holders in multiple individual events, including
Alex Wilhelm (200 freestyle & 200 IM),
Christian Taylor (100 backstroke), and
Noah Althoff (200 breaststroke).
Like the women, the Fordham men also have a strong newcomer group, highlighted by graduate transfers
Guy Gropper (SEC Championship finalist for South Carolina) and
Wojciech Dutkowiak (NCAA Championship qualifier at Pittsburgh).
