Bronx, N.Y. – (January 28, 2023) – After opening the semester on the road, the Fordham squash team was back at home on Saturday, where the Rams split their two matches at the Lombardi Center Squash Courts.
The day began with a 7-2 victory over NYU for Fordham.
The Rams won every match from the second slot through the eighth, beginning with
Bennett Van Liew defeating Nathan Chong at second position, 11-7, 11-7, and 11-7.
Jack Stanley and
Sofia Arseniev followed with three game wins at third and fourth positions, respectively. Stanley topped Ziyi Li, 11-4, 11-0, 11-4, while Arseniev defeated Abby Lenhard, 11-2, 11-5, 11-3.
Robert Cruikshank,
Nicholas Choo, and
Aarav Jhunjhunwala continued the three-game wins for Fordham at the fifth, sixth, and eighth slots. Cruikshank upended Maine Von Der Heyden at the fifth slot (11-2, 11-2, 11-2), followed by Choo over Omar Abdelsalam at #6 (13-11, 11-2, 11-5) and Jhunjhunwala over Rhys Berezny in the eighth slot (11-7, 11-4, 11-8).
The final win for the Rams came from
Caleb Schumacher, who took down George Newberry in four games at seventh position, 11-3, 9-11, 11-5, and 11-7.
In match two of the day, the Rams fell to Bucknell, 6-3.
Van Liew, Cruikshank, and Schumacher each posted their second win of the day against the Bison.
Van Liew got past Andre Giglio in four games (4-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8), as did Cruikshank, who defeated Harrison Sotir (13-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-5). Shumacher then earned a four-game win over Cameron Hill, 11-5, 11-6, 5-11, and 12-10.
Fordham wraps up their home weekend matches on Sunday with an 11:00 AM match against Dartmouth Club.
