Newport News, Va. – For the first time in her career, Fordham softball senior
Makenzie McGrath has been named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon. McGrath made three appearances in the circle and picked up both victories for the Rams this weekend at the Grand Canyon Kick-Off Classic.
"Mak did a great job this weekend staying within herself and showed her versatility as a starter, reliever, and closer." Head coach
Melissa Inouye said, "She's a competitor and hard worker and I'm proud of the strides she's made in her mental game."
McGrath, an All-Rookie selection three years ago, earned her first weekly league accolade by pitching to a 0.90 ERA over 10.0 innings, appearing on all three days. She made her first appearance of the season in relief against Weber State, allowing an unearned run on a hit with one strikeout. Against the Wildcats on Saturday, the Dumont, N.J. native started and earned her fifth career complete game, limiting Weber State to just one run on four hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts. On Sunday, she picked up the win in relief after
Michaela Carter's go-ahead home run in the seventh inning, allowing just one single in an otherwise perfect 1.2 innings.
McGrath improves to a career 14-5 record and 4.02 ERA over 47 appearances and 129 innings.
Fordham is back in action this weekend at Costal Carolina's Battle at the Beach.
