Bronx, N.Y. – (November 6, 2022) – The Fordham squash team finished their opening weekend of the season with a split of matches on Sunday, defeating Boston University, 7-2, while falling to Georgetown to the same score.
The Rams finished the weekend with a 5-1 record.
In the opening match of the day, Fordham picked up wins at the top two slots, as
Adham Nassar defeated Pablo Rodriguez at the #1 position in five games (11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 1-11, 11-6), while
Nicholas Gilman topped Milan Tahliani at #2 slot in four games (11-7, 11-2, 8-11, 11-9).
The Rams then earned wins at the fifth through ninth slots to complete the team win.
Bennett Van Liew won at fifth position over Sean Gregg in three games, 11-9, 11-8, and 11-6, followed by
Jack Stanley taking down Eddie Nakamura at sixth position, 11-3, 11-5, and 11-4.
Sofia Arseniev then knocked off Jason Stein at the seventh slot (11-5, 11-5, 11-6) with
Robert Cruikshank (11-4, 14-12, 11-5) and
Nicholas Choo (12-10, 11-9, 11-4) closing out the match with wins at the eighth and ninth slots, respectively.
In match two, the Rams saw Gilman and Cruikshank each pick up a second win of the day against the Hoyas, but two five-game matches went against Fordham as did two four-game matches in a 7-2 loss.
Gilman defeated Alex Bernhard at second position in five games, 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, and 11-6, while Cruikshank topped Teddy Donohue in four games, at the seventh slot, 14-12, 7-11, 11-6, and 11-7.
Fordham squash will next be in action at the Navy Round Robin, November 11-13.
