Morgantown, W. Va. – (October 8, 2022) – The 18
th-ranked Fordham water polo team got their weekend off to a good start on Saturday, posting a pair of wins on day one of the MAWPC Crossover event, held in Morgantown, West Virginia.
With the wins, Fordham improved to 12-6 on the year.
The Rams opened the day with a dominant 25-3 win over McKendree.
Fordham started the match with five goals in the opening frame, followed by an incredible 10-goal effort in the second quarter and never looked back.
Four different Rams had hat tricks in the game, led by
Nacho Ariste and
George Papanikolaou, who each had three goals and two assists, while
Paul Pittion and
Mark Katsev had three goals and an assist each. In net,
Thomas Lercari and
Riccardo Di Giuseppe each played two quarters with Lercari making six saves to go with three steals, while Di Giuseppe had three saves, including a penalty block.
In game two, Fordham outlasted Salem by a 17-14 count.
The Rams led 7-5 after the first quarter and 10-7 at halftime. Each team totaled seven goals in the second half for the 17-14 final.
Jacopo Parrella was the scoring star for Fordham with five goals, while
Luca Silvestri had three goals and three assists.
Christos Loupakis also had three goals with
Lucas Nieto Jasny posting two goals and an assist. Lercari finished with 14 saves in the match to go with two steals.
The Rams conclude play at the MAWPC Crossover on Sunday with matches against Gannon (9:00 AM) and Mercyhurst (1:00 PM).
