Bronx, N.Y. – (September 11, 2021) – The cross country trail of Van Cortlandt Park was dosed with sunny skies and a warm morning for the annual Fordham Fiasco Cross Country meet. The day was a good one for the Rams, as the women placed first in the team standings, while the men took third.
The Fordham Fiasco opened with the men's race, as Saint Joseph's had the top score with 31 points, as the Hawks had five runners in the top ten. Manhattan took second with 41 points, followed by Fordham (81), NJIT (102), St. Thomas Aquinas (137), USMMA (142), and Staten Island (200). St. Francis Brooklyn, Molloy, Manhattanville, and Sarah Lawrence also had runners in the race, but not enough for a team score.
Individually, Manhattan's Pelle Nogueira navigated the 8K course the best, clocking in with a winning time of 26:17.1, with Fordham's
Steven Zucca in second at 26:44.1 and Saint Joseph's Ethan McIntyre in third (26:44.9).
Behind Zucca,
Rodolfo Sanchez was the next Ram across the line in 27:15.1, good for eighth overall.
Justin Lombardi was next in 28:31.1 (22
nd overall), followed by
Ryan Fahey (34
th – 29:04.0),
John Arvantides (46
th - 30:42.8), and Jack O'Connell (47
th – 30:51.4).
In the women's race, Fordham had seven runners in the top 15 finishers, as they won the Fordham Fiasco with a team score of 38. St. John's was second with 65 points, followed by Saint Joseph's (84), Manhattan (87), St. Thomas Aquinas (127), NJIT (174), Molloy (174), USMMA (230), St. Francis Brooklyn (243). Sarah Lawrence also had runners compete, but not enough for a team score.
St. John's Claire Cushing was the top individual, winning the 5K race in 19:06.5, with Manhattan's Andria Scaglione in second (19:18.7) and St. John's Katherine Bruno in third (19:45.6).
Fordham had the next three runners across the line as
Bridget Alex (19:49.7),
Nicoleta Papavasilakis (19:58.2), and
Alexandra Thomas (20:04.6) were fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. The Rams then had a four-pack of runners take 11
th through 14
th place, starting with
Taylor Mascetta (20:13.0) in 11
th, followed in by
Madeleine Ryan (20:26.1),
Caroline McDonagh (20:29.3), and
Germaine Harbaugh (20:31.3).
Other Rams running on Saturday were

Fordham cross country will next be in action on Friday, September 17
th, as the teams run at the Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Championship, hosted by Iona College at Van Cortlandt Park.
