Box Score Windsor, Conn. – It's been almost a year since the Fordham women's tennis team competed in a match and the Rams made their first match back go the distance, before falling to Connecticut, 4-3, at the Magic Lincer Tennis Academy.
The match opened with the Huskies squeaking out a win in doubles. UConn's
Julieanne Bou and
Leonie Hoppe defeated Fordham's
Eleni Fasoula and
Rachelle Yang, 6-4, at first doubles but the Rams evened the doubles score when
Valeriya Deminova and
Nicole Li took third doubles from Caroline Cook and Aleksandra Karamyshev, 6-3. Fordham's No. 2 doubles team of
Arina Taluyenko and
Genevieve Quenville then took UConn's
Denise Lai and
Doga Selen Takunyaci to the limit before falling, 7-6 (7-4) to give the doubles point to the Huskies.
In singles play, Fasoula dropped the third spot to Lai, 6-0, 6-0, as UConn took a 2-0 lead. Taluyenko got the Rams on the board with a 6-4, 6-0, win over Bou at first singles.
UConn took a 3-1 lead when
Takunyaci defeated Balce at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-3, a win by Deminova at second singles over Hoppe (6-2, 6-1) made it a 3-2 match.
Caroline Cook clinched the match for the Huskies beating Li, 7-5 and 6-3, at
No. 4 before Quenville closed out the match with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles over Elizabeth Kozyi.
