Track & Field Opens Outdoor Campaign

Rams Host Nine Teams at CO-VID Invitational at Icahn Stadium

Randall's Island – (March 20, 2021) – The Fordham track & field team ran outdoors for the first time in almost two years on Saturday, as the squad hosted eight other teams at the CO-VID Invitational at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.  No team scoring was kept.
 
Fordham's top performers on the day came in the relay events, as the men's 4x800 relay, comprised of Zalen Nelson, Jeremiah LaDuca, Patrick Tuohy, and Thomas Lewis won the event in 7:58.17, while the men's 4x400 relay of Chase Krug, Erik Brown, Arthur Gooden Jr., and Anthony Misko took second in 3:22.80.

The women's relays also performed well with the 4x100 relay of Ruby Avila, Jade Dyer-Kennedy, Kyla Hill, and Skylar Harris taking second in 50.50 seconds with the 4x800 relay of Jilli Jones, Abigail Llach, Sydney Snow, and Nicoleta Papavasilakis also in second at 9:39.55.
 
Individually on the track, Nelson and Sean Sullivan finished second and third respectively in the men's 800 meter run in 1:54.79 and 1:57.85, while Misko and Brown were third and fourth in the men's 400 meters in 50.66 and 51.18 seconds.
 
Nicholas Raefski was sixth in the men's 5,000 meter run (14:58.98) just ahead of teammate Brandon Hall, who was eighth (15:00.44).  Daniel Asher also took seventh in the men's 1,500 meter run in 4:06.16.
 
The women were highlighted by Michele Daye, who placed fifth in the 400 meter dash in 1:02.13 with Kyla Hill taking sixth in the 200 meter dash in 25.69 seconds.  Maddy Kopec was seventh in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:53.59.
 
Over in the field events, the women had four top five finishers, beginning with Tara Coyne taking fourth in the high jump, clearing 5' ¼", while Jade Dyer-Kennedy was also fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 33' 10 ¾".  Skylar Harris was fifth in the long jump at 16' 5 3/4" with Julia Cianflone clearing 8'6" in the pole vault, which as good for fifth.
 
On the men's side, Justin Rhee earned a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 21' 3 1/2", while Alec Wargo was third in the shot put at 35' 8".
 
The Rams are next in action on April 2nd at the Stockton Invite #2 in Galloway, New Jersey.
