Bridgeport, Pa. – (November 2, 2021) - The Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday with Fordham freshman
Jacopo Parrella (Naples, Italy) being selected as both Player and Rookie of the Week, while senior goalkeeper
Bailey O'Mara (Darien, Conn.)
For Parrella, it is his second Rookie of the Week award of the year and first of Player of the Week, while being the second Defensive Player of the Week award for O'Mara this season.
Parrella helped Fordham stay unbeaten in league action with wins over Johns Hopkins and Bucknell this weekend. He totaled nine goals, five assists, and eight steals over the two contests. He opened the weekend by netting three goals, three assists, and a season-high five steals in a 19-4 win over Johns Hopkins. Parella then had a season-high six goals to go with two assists and three steals in a 14-13 sudden death overtime win over Bucknell. He registered the game-tying goal with five seconds left in regulation against the Bison, and then while cramping was able to tread water long enough to score the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime.
O'Mara played in only one of the two Fordham matches this weekend, making 14 saves, including a huge penalty block, to go with a steal in the sudden death win over Bucknell. With Fordham down 12-10, O'Mara sparked the Rams' comeback with a penalty block with 1:03 left in the fourth quarter to keep the Rams in the game. Fordham then scored twice in the final minute, and eventually won the game in sudden death overtime.
Parrella, O'Mara, and the rest of the Rams are back in action on Friday, November 5
th, as they start a four-match road trip at Mt. St Mary's, beginning at 7:30 PM.
