Phil Steele's 2020 NCAA FCS Preseason All-Conference Teams
 
Bronx, N.Y. – Nineteen members of the Fordham University football squad, comprising 22 positions, were named to the 2020 Phil Steele Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
 
Named to the first team were , junior quarterback Tim DeMorat, who was also named the preseason offensive player of the year, along with seniors Glenn Cunningham (LB), Zach Davis (RB), Andrew Mevis (PK), Trey Sneed (RB), Ellis Taylor (DL), and Nick Zakelj (OL); and juniors Ryan Greenhagen (LB), Fotis Kokosioulis (AP), and Phil Saleh (OL).
 
Being placed on the second team were seniors Jesse Bramble (DB), Hamze El-Zayat (WR) and junior Naim Mayfield (PR), with Mevis also earning second team honors at punter and Kokosioulis at kick return.
 
On the third team the Rams are represented by seniors Jonathan Coste (DL), Dervin Hylton, Jr. (DB), and Jack Lynch (TE); junior Anthony Tony-Itoyah (DB); and sophomores Dequece Carter (WR) and Lucas Portes (OL) with Kokosioulis also earning third team accolades at wide receiver.
 
FIRST TEAM – PRESEASON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
 
Tim DeMorat (QB , Jr., Merritt Island, Fla./Viera)

• 2019 First Team All-Patriot League pick
• Also a 2019 Phil Steele First Team All-Patriot League pick
​• Started all 12 games at quarterback for the Rams in 2019
• Completed 232 of 393 passes for 2,674 yards and 20 scores
• Led Patriot League in passing yards/game (222.8) and passing touchdowns
• Ranked 35th in NCAA FCS in passing touchdowns and 38th in passing yards/game
• Led League and ranked 36th in NCAA FCS in total passing yards
• Led Patriot League in points responsible for/game (12.2) and completions per game (19.33)
• Second in the League in passing efficiency (127.4) and total offense (209/7 yards/game)
• Also rushed for three touchdowns
 
 
FIRST TEAM
 
Glenn Cunningham (LB - Sr., Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier)
• Named 2019 First Team All-Patriot League
• Also named 2019 Phil Steele Second Team All-Patriot League
• Started all 12 games at linebacker in 2019
• Second on team with 78 total tackles, 49 solo, including 8.5 for loss and 1.0 sack
• Also had an interception, four pass breakups and six quarterback hurries
• Forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles
• Has 40.5 career tackles for loss, third all-time at Fordham.

 

Zach Davis (RB - Sr., Wallingford, Conn./Sheehan)
• A 2019 First Team All-Patriot League selection
• Also a 2019 Phil Steele First Team All-Patriot League pick
• Started all 12 games at running back for the Rams in 2019
• Rushed 200 times for 1,013 yards and seven touchdowns
• Led the Rams and the Patriot League in rushing (84.4 yards/game)
• Led Patriot League with seven rushing touchdowns
• Second in Patriot League and 31st in the NCAA FCS in total rushing yards
• Second in Patriot League and 36th in NCAA FCS in rushing yards/game (84.4)
• Second in the Patriot League in rushing yards/carry (5.07)
• Also had 14 catches for 82 yards
• Fourth in the Patriot League in all-purpose yards (91.3/game).
 
Ryan Greenhagen (LB - Jr., Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII)
• 2019 HERO Sports Sophomore All-American
• 2019 All-ECAC
• 2019 First Team All-Patriot League selection
• 2019 Academic All-Patriot League selection
• Named Second Team All-Patriot League in 2018
• Led team with 123 tackles, 83 solo, including a team-best 18.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks
• Also had eight QBH, one forced fumble and one pass break up
• Led Patriot League in TFLs/Game (1.54) and second in tackles/game (10.2)
• Third in the NCAA FCS in solo tackles/game (6.8), 12th in total tackles/game and 14th in TFLs/game
• The 18.5 TFLs was the third best single season in school history
• The 82 solo tackles was the second best single season in school history
• Has 33.5 career TFLs, seventh-best in school history
 
Fotis Kokosioulis (AP - Jr., Park Ridge, Ill. Maine South (NIU))
• Named 2019 Phil Steele First Team All-Patriot League at all-purpose and second team at kick returner
• Appeared in all 12 games at wide receiver, making two starts
• Led Patriot League with seven receiving touchdowns
• Third on team with 49 receptions for 621 yards
• Also returned 40 kickoffs for 869 yards (21.7 average), ranking second in the Patriot League
• Also rushed five times for 27 yards
• Led Patriot League and was 21st in the NCAA FCS in all-purpose yards (126.58 yards/game)
• Ninth in the NCAA FCS in combined kick returns (871 yards)
• Also named second team preseason at kick return and third team at wide receiver
 
Andrew Mevis (Sr. - PK, Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community)

• Named 2019 First Team All-Patriot League placekicker
• Also a 2019 Phil Steele First Team All-Patriot League pick
• Started all 12 games as the placekicker and punter
• Connected on 15 of 20 field goals with a long of 46 and 31 of his 33 PATs
• Second in the Patriot League, and was 19th in the NCAA FCS, in field goals/game
• Third in Patriot League in field goal percentage (.750)
• Led the Patriot League in scoring (6.3)
• 15 made field goals in 2019 is tied for fifth most in a season in school history
• Averaged 40.4 yards/punt (70 punts for 2,827 yards) with a long of 57
• Had nine punts of more than 50 yards
• 30 of his 70 punts landed inside the 20 and 28 were fair caught
• Kicked off 63 times with 50 touch backs
• Named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week twice
• Has 27 career field goals, tied for fifth most in school history
• Named preseason second team at punter
 
 Trey Sneed (RB - Sr., Orange Park, Fla./Fleming Island (Rutgers))
• A 2019 Second Team All-Patriot League selection
• Also named 2019 Phil Steele Second Team All-Patriot League
• Appeared in eleven games at running back in first year at Rose Hill
• Rushed 119 times for 552 yards and six touchdowns
• Also had nine catches for 50 yards
• Third in the Patriot League in rushing yards/carry (4.64)
• Third in the Patriot League in rushing yards
• Fourth in the Patriot League in rushing touchdowns
• Also caught nine passes for 50 yards

Ellis Taylor (DL - Sr., Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick)
• 2019 Second Team All-Patriot League selection
• Recorded 36 total tackles, 16 solo, including 9.0 for loss and 6.5 sacks
• Also had seven quarterback hurries and one blocked kick
• Led team in sacks and second in tackles for loss
• Fifth in the Patriot League in sacks/game (0.54)
 
Phil Saleh (OL – Jr., Oak Park, Ill. Oak Park-River Forest)
• Named 2019 Second Team All-Patriot League
• Also named Phil Steele Second Team All-Patriot League
• Started all 12 games at center as a sophomore
• Blocked for the top-ranked offense in the Patriot League (357.2 yards/game)
• The Fordham offense also led the League in scoring (25.0) and red zone offense

Nick Zakelj (OL- Sr., Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights)
• A 2019 First Team All-Patriot League selection
• Also a 2019 Phil Steele First Team All-Patriot League pick
• Named 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-Patriot League
• Recipient of the Lansing Trophy as Fordham's top lineman
• Started all 12 games at left tackle for the Rams in 2019
• Blocked for the top-ranked offense in the Patriot League (357.2 yards/game)
• Fordham offense also led the League in scoring (25.0) and red zone offense

 
SECOND TEAM
 

Jesse Bramble (DB - Sr., Staten Island, N.Y.Tottenville)
• Started first two games in the defensive backfield for the Rams in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury
• Made 15 total tackles, 13 solo, including 2.0 for loss and 1.0 sack
• Also had a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry
• Started all eleven games in the defensive backfield
• Made 39 total tackles, 31 solo, and recorded four interceptions, nine pass breakups, and two quarterback hurries in 2018
• Led 2018 team in interceptions and second in pass breakups
• Second in the Patriot League, and 23rd in the NCAA FCS, in passes defended/game (1.18) in 2018
 
Hamze El-Zayat (WR - Sr., Dearborn, Mich./Fordson)
• Named 2019 Phil Steele Third Team All-Patriot League
• Started all 12 games at wide out as a junior
• Led team with 62 receptions for 642 yards with four touchdowns
• Second on team in receiving yards and touchdowns
• Third in Patriot League in receptions/game (5.3)
 
Naim Mayfield (PR - Jr., Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan)
• Named 2019 Phil Steele Third Team All-Patriot League as a kick returner
• Appeared in all 12 games as a sophomore, both at running back and in defensive backfield
• Rushed 37 times for 175 yards
• Carried nine times for 71 yards against CCSU
• Ran four times for 27 yards in win at Bryant
• Returned eight kickoffs for 163 yards (20.4 average) and five punts for 66 yards (13.2 average)
 
 
THIRD TEAM
 
Dequece Carter (WR – So., Louisa, Va./Woodberry Forest School)

• Named a 2019 HERO Sports Freshman All-American
• Started all 12 games as a rookie
• Had 53 catches for a team-high 723 yards and five touchdowns
• Set school freshman records for most receptions and most receiving yards
• Second on team in receiving touchdowns, third in receptions
• Made a season-high ten catches for 87 yards in season finale win over Bucknell
• Hauled in eight passes for 170 yards and one touchdown at Lafayette
• The 170 receiving yards was one shy of the Fordham freshman record
• Had eight catches for 122 yards and two scores against Holy Cross
• Named Patriot League Rookie of the Year following Holy Cross game
 
Jonathan Coste (DL - Sr., Queens, N.Y./Christ the King)
• Appeared in eleven games, starting eight at nose tackle
• Recorded 34 total tackles, 14 solo, including 7.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks
• Also had seven quarterback hurries, tying for second on team
• Forced one fumble and blocked one kick
 
Dervin Hylton, Jr. (DB - Sr., Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy)
• Appeared in eleven games as a junior, starting ten at cornerback
• Recorded 37 total tackles, 22 solo
• Also had two interceptions, five pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery
• Finished with a career-high eight tackles, four solo, and broke up three passes in Richmond win
 
Jack Lynch (TE - Sr., Berlin, Conn./Berlin)
• Started all 12 games at tight end in 2019
• Made three catches for 19 yards and two scores
• Hauled in a five-yard scoring strike at Ball State for his first collegiate catch
• Grabbed an eleven-yard touchdown pass at Georgetown
 
Lucas Portes (OL - So., Gaithersburg, Md. Good Counsel)
• Started all 12 games as a freshman at left guard
• Blocked for the top-ranked offense in the Patriot League (357.2 yards/game)
• Fordham offense also led the League in scoring (25.0) and red zone offense
 
Anthony Tony-Itoyah (DB - Jr., Denton, Tex./Denton)
• Appeared ten games at defensive back in 2019, starting four at strong safety
• Recorded 53 total tackles, fifth best on the team
• Among his 53 stops were 42 solo tackles, including 2.5 for loss
• Also had two pass breakups and one forced fumble
• Finished with eleven tackles, five solo, including 0.5 for loss at Ball State
