On This Date: Egan Registers Second No-Hitter of 1909

Dick Egan No-Hits Princeton in Rain-Shortened Game

With the 2020 spring sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years

April 3, 1909 – After being a part of the first no-hitter in team history, Fordham hurler Dick Egan tossed the Rams' second no-hitter of the week, defeating Princeton, 2-0, in a weather shortened game of five innings.

Egan allowed just two baserunners in the game, giving up one on a walk and one on an error.  He also finished with six strikeouts at Princeton.

The Rams scored once in the first and once in the second for the only runs of the game, as Fordham had eight of their nine hits in the first three innings of the game.  Jack Coffey had one of the two runs scored to go along with a hit.  Egan helped his own cause with a pair of hits, while Adrian Schiess also had two hits.

Fordham finished with a spring record of 16-7 that season, and played one exhibition contest against the Baltimore Orioles of the Eastern League, falling by a 2-1 score.
