Bridgeport, Pa. - (February 14, 2020) - The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches has announced the men's All-Academic Awards for the 2019 season, honoring nine Fordham student-athletes with at least a 3.2 GPA or higher. The Rams also garnered the team award from the ACWPC, ranking in 19
th nationally.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member of the ACWPC, while the athlete must attain a grade point average in excess of 3.20. Divided into three teams based on cumulative grade point average (GPA), 137 overall athletes garnered Outstanding status (4.00-3.71), 171 Superior (3.70-3.41) and 142 Excellent (3.40-3.20) recognition from 48 teams.
Fordham's
Bailey O'Mara was the lone student-athlete to earn "Outstanding" status, while
Joseph Agabs,
Phillip Wang,
August Weyandt, and Aldo Ordo
ñez garnered "Superior" status. Four others,
Yuki Saito,
Sam Wheeler,
Daniel Lynch, and
Quinn Wagner, earned "Excellent" status.
For Agabs and Saito, it is their fourth time being honored by the ACWPC, while being the third time for Wheeler, Weyandt, and Wang. It is the second honor for O'Mara.
Further, a total of 35 schools posted Team Honors for posting GPAs over 3.0, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3.64) leading the way. Brown University (3.56), the California Institute of Technology (3.53), Salem University (3.49), Harvard University (3.48), Wagner College (3.46), Johns Hopkins University (3.45), California Baptist University (3.43), University of California-Irvine (3.41), and Stanford University (3.38) rounded out the top ten. For rankings 11-20, it was Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (3.35), Iona College (3.34), Princeton University (3.34), San Jose State University (3.32), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (3.3), the University of California-Los Angeles (3.27), Connecticut College (3.23), Mercyhurst University (3.2), Fordham University (3.18), and Saint Francis College Brooklyn (3.14).
