With the 2020 fall sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years.
November 2, 1991 – (Bronx, N.Y) – For the Fordham women's cross country team, winning conference championships has become a routine, especially if the championship is held right at home at Van Cortlandt Park. That routine continued at the 1991 Patriot League Championship, as the Rams won their second straight team championship. It also marked a fifth consecutive conference championship for Fordham, dating back to their day in the MAAC, winning the 1987, 1988, and 1989 team crowns.
The Rams had five of the top seven finishers on the day, scoring 20 points, way ahead of the rest of the field. Holy Cross was second at 81 points, followed by Colgate (82), Lehigh (86), Bucknell (101), and Lafayette (111)
To no surprise, Fordham's Lauren Gubizca led the field, defending her individual Patriot League title with a winning time of 18:41.3. Teammate Karen Cloran was second at 19:07 with Julia Ferrante in fourth at 19:40. Elaine Laird and Kathy Fullam came across in sixth (19:50) and seventh (19:51) overall respectively. All five runners would receive All-Patriot League honors, while coach Suzanne Shea O'Connell was the first recipient of the Patriot League Coach of the Year award.
Karen McAuliffe was the final Ram runner in 33
rd overall (21:16).
