With the 2020 fall sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years.

October 29, 1972 – (Lewisburg, Pa.) – After preliminary wins over Delaware and St. Francis (Pa.), the Fordham water polo squad took on Bucknell in the championship match of the 1972 Bucknell Invitational.  In that title match, Devon Reiff scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Rams a 14-13 win over the Bison.

The Rams were under constant pressure in the championship match, falling behind by a 5-1 score.  However by halftime, the score was all tied up by the Rams.

The seesaw affair continued in the second half, but Bucknell got up two late in the fourth quarter after the Rams list Paul Macht to an injury, while John Baran and Kevin Conway had fouled out of the game.

Fordham though still had the best player in the pool in All-American Ned Kelly, as he scored twice in the final minute and a half to tie the game and force overtime.  First, he netted a penalty shot goal and then scored again with 20 seconds left to knot the game.

The game-winning marker came in the second half of the overtime session when Frank Einterez found Devon Reiff for the go-ahead goal.

October 29, 1988 – (Bronx, N.Y.) – The incredible championship run in the late 1980s for the Fordham women's cross country team continued at the 1988 Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championship, held at Van Cortlandt Park, winning its second consecutive CTC team title.
