Bronx, N.Y. – (January 25, 2020) – With a full line-up available on Saturday, the Fordham squash team was able to snap a four-match losing streak with an 8-1 victory over the Bucknell Bison at the Lombardi Center Squash Courts.
With the win, Fordham improved to 15-9, while Bucknell fell to 6-7.
The Rams cruised out to an early team lead with three-game victories at the third slot as well as at the fifth through ninth slots. In the bottom third,
Dylan Panichello top Will Henning, 11-5, 11-3, 11-3, at the seventh position, while
Jacob Bennett knocked off George Savin, 11-0, 11-2, 11-2, at the eighth slot.
Caleb Schumacher capped the bottom third with an 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 win at the ninth position over Kyle Morin.
In the middle third,
Winthrop Reed IV had an easy time with Mark Khalil at fifth position (11-2, 11-1, 11-1), while
Justin George toppled Drew Hopkins at the sixth spot, 11-5, 11-5 and 11-9.
Justin Deckoff needed four games to earn his win on Saturday, defeating Tarquin Hanson, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7, and 11-5.
In the top third, the Rams welcomed back
Bruce Czachor to the line-up for the first time in two seasons, as he defeated Bryan Yekelchik in three games at the third slot, 11-5, 11-7, 11-1.
Griffin Fitzgerald picked up a win at the top slot over Delancey McFadden through a default, as McFadden was unable to finish the match with the match tied at two games each (9-11, 12-10, 6-11, 9-7, retired).
The Fordham squash team will next be in action on Saturday, February 1
st, for their final set of home matches. The Rams face NYU at 10:00 AM, followed by a 2:00 PM match with Boston University and a 4:00 PM match with Siena.
