Bronx, NY – Once again, Fordham Athletics is proud to partner with the Vision Zero Initiative, a policy that states that no level of fatality on our NYC streets is inevitable or acceptable.
"With 22 Division I athletic teams, we bring thousands of fans to our Rose Hill campus each year through our various games and events," said Fordham University Director of Athletics
David Roach. "We applaud New York City DOT's commitment to keeping drivers, pedestrians and cyclists safe on the roads and are proud to echo that message as part of our game experience."
Fordham will remind fans of the Vision Zero initiative as part of a multilayered partnership that includes venue signage, in-game messaging and on-site fan education.
"DOT is pleased to partner with Fordham Athletics and to share important Vision Zero messaging with Rams fans," said Kim Wiley Schwartz, Assistant Commissioner for Education and Outreach." Signage and messaging in local arenas is an effective strategy for raising awareness, allowing us to reach thousands with our campaign and outreach team. By slowing down, watching for pedestrians at turns, and avoiding impaired driving, we can save lives."
Fans will be exposed to the Vision Zero messaging throughout the 2019-20 athletic season which began at the football season home opener on Saturday August 31
st vs. Central Connecticut State.
About Vision Zero
In 2014, New York City became the first city in the United States to implement Vision Zero. Through a combination of enforcement, education and engineering, New York City made dramatic changes that have helped drive down fatalities for five consecutive years, bucking national trends. To maintain progress, since the beginning of 2019, New York City has released
Vision Zero Year 5 Report, as well as a major update to its
Pedestrian Safety Action Plans.
