Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University Rams open their 2019 season, Fordham's 119th varsity season, by hosting the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils on Jack Coffey Field on Saturday, August 31, at 6:00 p.m.

The game will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network with Andrew Bogusch (p-b-p) and Raffaele Elia (color) announcing and broadcast live on WFUVsports.org with Emmanuel Berbari (p-b-p), Devin Clementi (color) and Chris Boccia (sidelines) handling the announcing chores.

Fordham enters the game off a 2-9 campaign last fall, 2-4 in the Patriot League, while Central Connecticut went 6-5 in 2018, 4-2 in the Northeast Conference.

This will be the third meeting between Fordham and Central Connecticut on the gridiron. The Rams took the first meeting, 38-31, in New Britain in 2017 while the Blue Devils were victorious last year, 24-13, on Jack Coffey Field.

A few notes on the game:

• Fordham is 49-32 all-time in season openers since 1920, 10-20 since moving to the NCAA FCS in 1989.

• Junior linebacker Glenn Cunningham, who set a school record for tackles for loss in a season last year, was named a Third Team 2019 Phil Steele and HERO Sports Preseason NCAA FCS All-American as well as Preseason All-Patriot League.

• Senior defensive back Jesse Bramble joins Cunningham in receiving Preseason All-Patriot League honors.

• The Fordham captains for 2019 are senior defensive backs Jesse Bramble and James Biggs-Frazier, and senior wide receiver Joe Ferraro.

• No New York area football team has won more games since 2012 than Fordham, who has amassed 52 victories over that stretch. The closest collegiate competitors are Stony Brook (47), Sacred Heart (43) and Rutgers (34), while the NFL's Giants have 47 wins over the past six years and the Jets have 42.
