Team Captains Announced for Cross Country and Track & Field Teams

Four Women and Four Men Chosen for Leadership Group for The Upcoming Season

Bronx, N.Y. – (August 26, 2019) – With the first cross country meet of the season coming up this weekend, Fordham head coach Brian Horowitz announced the team captains for the 2019-20 cross country and track & field season today.

Four women and four men were chosen for the Rams' leadership role this season.  For the men, seniors Ryan Kutch, Sean Sullivan, and Andrew Byrne, as well as junior Jack Keegan will fill the captain's role, while the women's captains are seniors Katarzyna Krzyzanowski and Sydney Snow and juniors Dana Beggins and Kathryn Kelly.

Kutch returns for his final season after becoming the first Atlantic 10 runner to win the cross country individual title and both distances events at both the indoor (3,000m & 5,000m) and outdoor (5,000m & 10,000m) championships.  He set four school records last season in the indoor 3,000- and 5,000-meter events and the outdoor 5,000- and 10,000-meter events.  Kutch was also the Metropolitan champion in cross country, the indoor 5,000 meters, and the outdoor 10,000 meters, as well as an All-East performer at the IC4A Championship.  Academically, he was selected to the Academic All-Conference teams for cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.

Sullivan had his best campaign last season, setting personal-bests in most of the track events he participated, including the indoor 800m, 1,000m, and mile run and the outdoor 800m and 1,500m.  He was a part of Fordham's Atlantic 10 champion 4x800 relay team at the outdoor championship, earning First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors, while getting a bronze medal at the Penn Relays as a part of the Rams' distance medley relay.  He is also a two-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Bryne earned a pair of bronze medals at the Atlantic 10 Championships last season, taking third in the indoor heptathlon and the outdoor decathlon, both with career-high scores.  He was also the Metropolitan champion in the indoor heptathlon, while finishing runner-up in the outdoor decathlon.   Academically, he was selected to the Academic All-Conference teams for indoor track and outdoor track.

Keegan, the lone non-senior captain for the men, was an integral part of the Fordham relay teams throughout last season, scoring twice at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship in the 4x400 and distance medley relays, as well as in the 4x400 at the Outdoor Championship.  He is also a two-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Krzyzanowski had a breakthrough year in 2018-19, earning multiple awards, highlighted by an ECAC title in the indoor distance medley relay and a Penn Relays title in the outdoor distance medley relay.  She captured Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors as a part of the indoor distance medley relay, setting a new school record, and was the Metropolitan champion in the indoor 3,000 meters.  She is also a three-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Snow was a Metropolitan and ECAC champion during last season, as a part of the 4x800 relays.  She was a member of both the indoor and outdoor Metropolitan champion 4x800 relay, while in cross country, she finished in the top ten at the Metropolitan Championship.  She then capped her season with an ECAC title in the outdoor 4x800 relay, while posting a career-best time in the steeplechase at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship.  She is also a three-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Like Snow, Beggins also earned 4x800 titles at the Metropolitan Indoor Championship and the ECAC Outdoor Championship.  She also helped the 4x800 relay pick up a bronze medal finish at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship and finished the year with personal-best times in the indoor 500 and 800 meters and the outdoor 800 meters.  She is also a two-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Kelly earned plenty of hardware during her sophomore campaign, while setting school records in the indoor and outdoor 200-meter dash and the 4x100 relay.  During the indoor season, she received bronze medals in the 200-meter dash at both the Atlantic 10 and ECAC Championships, and then earned her third bronze medal in the 200 meters at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship, while posting three top ten finishes at the ECAC Outdoor Championship.  She is also a two-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

The Rams' first meet of the season will take place on Saturday, August 31st, at Stony Brook Season Opener.
