Fordham Football Report #7

A look at the Rams’ linebackers

Bronx, N.Y. – As the team prepares for its second scrimmage of the 2019 Fordham football fall camp, we continue our position-by-position look at the Rams with the linebackers.

The linebacker unit is loaded with experience and talent, led by 2018 All-Americans Glenn Cunningham and Ryan Greenhagen, who combined for 36.5 tackles for loss last year along with eleven sacks. They will be joined by five returning players and a couple of newcomers.

Cunningham, a junior who was named a HERO Sports Sophomore All-American last year as well as first team All-Patriot League, returns after a record-setting sophomore season. Last year, he led the team with 92 total tackles, 56 solo, including 21.5 for loss and 3.0 sacks, setting a school single season mark with 21.5 TFLs. He led Patriot League, and was fourth in the NCAA FCS, in tackles for loss/game (2.0). Cunningham also had an interception, two pass breakups and six quarterback hurries.

Greenhagen, a sophomore who was named a HERO Sports Freshman All-American last year as well as second team All-Patriot League, finished fourth on the team with 65 total tackles, 45 solo, including 15.0 for loss and 8.0 sacks. He led the team in sacks and was second in tackles for loss, placing fourth in the Patriot League and 31st in the NCAA FCS in sacks/game (0.73) while also ranking sixth in the league and 30th in the nation in tackles for loss/game (1.4).

Other returning players with experience at linebacker include juniors Ricardo Llanio, who appeared in all eleven games as a sophomore, both at linebacker and on special teams, recording four tackles, one solo, including 0.5 for loss; Matt Dengler, who did not see action in 2018; and Thomas Stolte, who did see action as a sophomore; along with sophomores Jaden Vazquez, who saw action in eight games for the Rams as a freshman, both at linebacker and on special teams, recording four total tackles, two solo; and Zac Spencer, who did see action as a freshman.

Newcomers at linebacker include freshmen Jestohn Moore, a 2018 First Team All-State selection at Morgantown High School in Morgantown, West Virginia; Nick Villis, a product of the Brunswick School in Greenwich, Connecticut; and Adam Demurjian, a product of Red Bank Catholic High School in Red Bank, New Jersey.
