2018-2019 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference set a league record with 3,290 unique student-athletes receiving Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction in 2018-19 with Fordham leading the way with 325 student-athletes recognized. The A-10 announced Wednesday the full list of honorees, which includes 59 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The 14 members also set a league high of 235 average honorees per school. Female student-athletes comprise nearly two-thirds of the class.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, this is the second consecutive year the Commissioner's Honor Roll has been based on the entire academic year. Previously the award was granted following each semester. To be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award.
The 3,290 honorees tops last year's high-water mark of 3,168 unique student-athletes. In previous years, the yearly Commissioner's Honor Roll number was calculated by combining the fall and spring semester totals.
Fordham had the most honorees with 325, followed by Massachusetts with 307. Saint Joseph's was third with 279 student-athletes honored, and Davidson (271) and George Mason (260) finished out the top five.
The 2018-19 class is 63.6 percent female, while 36.4 percent were male student-athletes. The class was also made up of 28.1 percent (923 total honorees) freshmen, 24.4 percent (802 total) sophomores, 24.6 percent (808 total) juniors and 21.5 percent (706 total) seniors. There were 51 graduate students honored, comprising 1.6 percent of the class.
Women's Track & Field/Cross Country had 442 student-athletes honored, and led all sports, followed by Men's Track & Field/Cross Country with 350, Women's Soccer with 319, Rowing (261) and Baseball (256).
