Madie Aughinbaugh Named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week

Junior Fired Two Complete Games, One Shutout, in Series Win over Dayton

Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball junior Madie Aughinbaugh has been named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. Aughinbaugh made two starts in league action this weekend against Dayton and allowed just one run over two complete games, picking up wins in both contests to secure a third consecutive conference series win for the Rams. The award is her first this year and the fourth of her career.

"Very happy for Aughie to get some recognition as she's been so consistent for us," Head coach Melissa Inouye said, "She is a competitor and truly gives us a chance to win every time she pitches."

As usual, Aughinbaugh has turned her game up a notch in conference play and this weekend fired two complete games, one a shutout, over Dayton to secure a third straight series win to begin league play. The junior allowed just one run over 14.0 frames with nine hits allowed and five strikeouts.

In game one, Aughinbaugh maintained a shutout until a seventh-inning solo shot broke it up before tossing a three-hit shutout on Sunday with just three base runners allowed, all on singles, with two strikeouts. For the weekend, she had a 2-0 record with a 0.50 ERA.

In league action this year, Aughinbaugh has a 5-0 record, 1.79 ERA, and five complete games over 39.0 innings. A year ago, the Port Tobacco, Md. native dominated the Atlantic 10 with a 9-1 record over 12 appearances, 10 starts, with a 0.98 ERA, eight complete games, and five shutouts over 64.0 frames.

Aughinbaugh continues her march up the program's record books. Over the weekend, the tri-captain broke a tie with former teammate Lauren Quense ('18) for career complete games, moving into a tie for fourth with Rachel Gillen ('16). Aughinbaugh also moved into solo fifth with her 12th career shutout, into a tie with Carol Fischer ('05) for sixth with 42 career victories, and passed Michele Daubman ('15) for eighth with her 260th strikeout. With the second out in her next start, she will pass Chelsea Plimpton ('11) for seventh-most innings pitched. Aughinbaugh also re-entered the all-time top-10 for career ERA, up to ninth at 2.67.

The Rams next play on the road on Wednesday afternoon at St. Bonaventure. The doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.
