Day 1 Results
Piscataway, N.J. – (April 12, 2019) – It was a successful first day for the Fordham track & field team at the 2019 Metropolitan Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at Rutgers University. The Fordham women scored 42 points on day one to put them in first place, while the men scored 34, good for third.
The Fordham women are one point ahead of St. John's and 17 clear of third place Rutgers.
The Rams built their lead through strong performances in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 10,000 meter run. In the steeplechase, the Rams had a 1-2 finish, as
Laurel Fisher won the event in a time of 10:44.58, while
Sydney Snow was second in 11:06.41.
Then in the 10,000 meters, Fordham had four runners score points, led by
Abigail Taylor, who won the event in 39:52.26.
Angelina Grebe was right behind her in second in 39:52.31, while
Kelsey Coppinger was fourth (40:32.66) and
Kieran Hanrahan was eighth (41:47.32).

Fordham just missed scoring in the other two events the Rams competed in.
Sophia Jagoe-Seidl was ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 119' 9", while
Casey Metzler placed 11
th in the hammer throw at 128' 6".
In the men's competition, Manhattan leads with 53 points, followed by Rutgers (50) and Fordham.
Like the women, the Fordham men also captured first place in both the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 10,000 meter run.
Brian Cook took home the Metropolitan champion title in the steeplechase, clocking in at 9:32.68.
Then in the 10,000 meters,
Ryan Kutch earned Metropolitan champion status with a first place time of 33:12.43.
Nicholas Raefski also scored third in the event at 33:21.04, while
Alberto Mena (9
th – 34:17.75) and
Matthew Roma (11
th – 36:17.33) just finished outside the top eight scorers.
Fordham also scored in the men's hammer throw and javelin throw events.
Alec Wargo placed fifth in the hammer with a distance of 129' 5", while
Ray Rainville grabbed fifth in the javelin with a mark of 167' 10".
The Rams will also look to pick up points in the men's decathlon, as at the halfway point,
Andrew Byrne is third with 3,022 points, with
Connor McKeown in fourth at 2,999 points.
The Metropolitan Championship will conclude on Saturday.
