Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's crew got its spring season started on the weekend of April 6-7 on opposite sides of the country as some members traveled to San Diego to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic while others remained on the east coast to compete on the Cooper Invitational.
Â
At the San Diego Crew Classic, held on the Fiesta Bay-Crown Point Shores, Fordham entered two shells, a varsity 8 and JV8. Both crews raced some tough west coast and top tier competition, with the JV racing some of the top nationally ranked programs. Â
Â
The V8 came up short in the heats against Georgetown (no 5), Sacramento State, Seattle Pacific, and Saint Mary's. They improved on their margins in the Petite Final against University of Wisconsin, UC San Diego and St Mary's.
Â
The JV lined up against Stanford (no 3), Texas at Austin (no 4), Oklahoma, San Diego State, and UC San Diego. Edging out UC San Diego, they advanced to the C Level Final that afternoon coming in third behind San Diego and Drexel, and beating St Mary's and UC San Diego.Â

Â
The 4+ found some speed last weekend, having the fastest time in the two heats of varsity fours. In the Grand Final they lined up with Delaware, Fairfield, Villanova, Marist and Duquesne. In the perhaps the closest contested race of the day, the Rams finished just three seconds out of Delaware's first place finish.
