Bronx, N.Y. – Head coach
Ian Choi and the Fordham volleyball program have today announced the addition of four incoming freshmen to their Class of 2023:
Megan Brzozowski,
Aneliesa Cartledge,
Jessica Doty, and
Mallory Lipski will join
Aria De La Rosa and
Chloe Pejouan beginning with the upcoming 2019 season. The six newcomers will bring next season's roster total to 18 student-athletes.
"This is a big class we're bringing in with a diverse set of personalities and skills," Choi said, "I'm excited to see how they'll all meld with the squad and simultaneously click as a collective team."
Brzozowski
Brzozowski, a 5'10 setter from Highland Heights, Ohio, was a four-year letterwinner at Gilmour Academy. Brzozowski started her high school career as a Cleveland.com Area All-Star, Cleveland Plain Dealer Player of the Year honorable mention, and a spot on the Frosh 59 at Prepvolleyball.com following a stellar rookie campaign that saw her help her school to a Division III State Championship. She was a Division III All-District team member as a sophomore and a three-year member Lancer Invitational All-Tournament team member each of her last three seasons. A two-year team captain as a junior and senior, she was named the Division II District MVP and a First Team member following her senior season. She holds her school's single-game record for assists, with 67, as a junior. Brzozowski played her club ball with Academy Volleyball Club, serving as a team captain for four years. A North Coast Power League All-Tournament team selection each season, she earned MVP honors in 2017, and helped her team to a GJNC 13 National Championship in 2013. Following her freshman season, she was invited to the USA Olympic Prospect Training Camp. Off the court, Brzozowski was a three-year member of the National Honors Society and earned the Chaplain Award as a freshman and the Scholastic Art Award as a senior.
"The first and most noticeable characteristic I saw while scouting Megan was her competitiveness, which was very much expressed in all her actions. She has good defensive balance as a setter in addition to a wicked top spin serve. She has the capability to point-score in her serving rotations in addition to dishing out those assists."
Cartledge
Cartledge, a 5'9 setter from Scottsdale, Ariz., was a four-year letterwinner at Notre Dame Preparatory. With the Saints, she was an All-Region member as a sophomore and a senior, the latter while serving as team captain. She finished her high school career with 2,325 assists. Cartledge played her club ball with the Arizona Storm, helping them to a trio of titles as a senior – the Red Rock Rave Qualifier, Colorado Crossroads Qualifier 17 Open, and 17 Elite Crown tournaments. Off the court, she was a three-year member of her school's Dean's List.
"Even though Ane is a 'sibling legacy', I'm excited to see her forge her own identity through the Fordham volleyball program. She's trained in the upper echelon's of the club circuit at Arizona Storm, so she's accustomed to a high level of competition. She'll bring depth and strong competition to the setter position next season."
Doty, a 5'11 outside hitter from Rolling Hills, Calif., was a three-year letterwinner at the Chadwick School. She was named a First Team CIF All-League member during her tenure.
Lipski
"Jessie is going to bring some solid depth to our pin position. She has a solid arm while having good balance in all the skills as an outside hitter. I think that she still has a high ceiling and am excited to see her continue to develop as an athlete."
Lipski, a 5'8 libero from Louisville, Ky., was a four-year letterwinner at Sacred Heart Academy. She helped the Valkyries to a state championship as a sophomore, as well as several other tournament wins during her first two years – the Mother McAuley Tournament as a freshman, the NIKE Tournament as a sophomore, and the Louisville Invitational both years. She is a two-time All-District member in each of the last two years and was a KHSAA Academic All-State honoree, as well. She was named to the Under Armour Watch List as a senior. Lipski played her club ball with KIVA, helping them to four different tournament championships at the U16 and U17 levels and earning bronze at the U17 Nationals.
"Mallory has been trained by an esteemed club, KIVA, throughout most of her volleyball career. She knows how to play the ball close to the floor and make calm and early reads on defense, all with an adept platform. Usually as a coaching staff, we try to leverage the strengths of each player by making small adjustments to our strategies, but in this case Mallory will fit seamlessly into our defensive system."
