Box Score New Haven, Conn. - The Fordham University men's tennis squad improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-0 win over Fairfield University in a match played at Yale.
The Rams came out strong, winning all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Finn Kemper and
Max Green took first doubles from Lewis Edwards and Jeff Rodgers, 6-2, before
Fabian Hansch Mauritzson and
Lutwin de Macar defeated Allan Magid and Tyler Shibles, 6-3, at the second position.
Allen Thornes and
Jofre Segarra completed the doubles sweep for the Rams with a 6-3 victory over John Hatala and Jan Parizek.
Fordham then took the match by winning all six single smatches, four in straight sets. Kemper got it started by defeating Magid, 6-1 and 6-1, at fourth singles before
Alex Makatsaria took fifth singles from Hatala, 6-3 and 6-2.
Jeremy Chung made it 3-0 for the Rams with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Palizek at the sixth spot and de Macar clinched the match for Fordham with a 6-1, 7-5 decision over Rodgers at third singles.
Mauritzson and Green had to mount comebacks to win their matches. Mauritzson dropped the first set at first singles to Edwards, 7-6 (4) and trailed 5-2 in the seocnd before he battled back to win the set, 7-5, and the tiebreaker, 10-8. Green lost the first set at second singles to Shibles, 6-3, and then trailed, 5-1 in the second before battling back to win the second set, 7-6 (3) and the tiebreaker, 10-2.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, February 2, as they travel into Queens to face Queens College at 6:00 p.m.
