Bronx, N.Y. – (November 24, 2019) – The Fordham squash team hosted its second weekend of home matches at the Lombardi Squash Courts, posting a 2-1 record in three matches.
The Rams now stand with an 11-5 record.
Fordham opened the weekend with an 8-1 victory over Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday. The Rams had five 3-0 wins by
Patrick Rodden (#2),
Justin Deckoff (#7),
Dylan Panichello (#8), and
Caleb Schumacher (#9) to lead the way.
Griffin Fitzgerald added to the victory with a four-game win over Russell Scharf at the top spot (10-12, 12-10, 11-4, 11-8), as did
Winthrop Reed IV at fourth position (11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-7) and
Jacob Bennett at sixth position (11-5, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7).
Justin George round out the win with a five-game win over Connor Browder at fifth position, 10-12, 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, and 11-6.
The Rams then picked up a clean sweep of Bard with a 9-0 win to close out Saturday.
Six of the nine wins were 3-0 victories for Fordham, coming from Fitzgerald, Rodden,
Tommy White (#3), George, Bennett, and Schumacher. Reed, Deckoff, and Panichello were all winners in four games over their Bard opponents.
On Sunday, the Rams were outlasted by NYU by a 5-4 count.
Fordham received wins from Fitzgerald at the top spot over Hamaad Jafry, 12-10, 11-5, and 11-9, as well as George at fifth position over Kenneth Nakamura in five games, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7, and 11-6.
Deckoff also had a five-game win over Shane Fries at the seventh slot (4-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8) with Schumacher overcoming Alex Murphy in four games, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8, and 11-6.
The Rams are back in action on December 6
th, as they host NYU, Brandeis, Denison, and Swarthmore at the Lombardi Squash Courts.
