Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – (November 2, 2019) – The Fordham squash team opened its 2019-20 season on Saturday with day one of the Vassar Round Robin, held at Kenyon Hall in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Rams got the season off to a great start with wins over Vassar and Lafayette.
In match one, Fordham topped host Vassar by a 7-2 score.
Fordham won the third through ninth slot matches to earn the team win, led by
Griffin Fitzgerald at the #3 position, who defeated Milinid Joshi in four games, 3-11, 11-3, 11-6, and 11-9.
Winthrop Reed IV (#4),
Tommy White (#5),
Justin George (#7),
Justin Deckoff (#8), and
Caleb Schumacher (#9) add three-game wins for the Rams, while it took four games for
Jacob Bennett to defeat Alex Wisneski at the sixth position, 12-10, 11-4, 6-11, and 11-4.
In match two, Fordham upended Lafayette by an 8-1 count.
The Rams were victorious in the second through ninth slot matches to take the team win. Fitzgerald, playing at second position in this match, again was the top winner, defeating Avery Warmack in three games, 11-2, 11-4, and 11-5.
Reed (#3), White (#4), Bennett (#5), George (#6), Deckoff (#7), and Schumacher (#9) all posted their second win of the day in the match, each in three games.
Dylan Panichello capped the victory with a three-game win over Paige Beede at the eighth slot, 11-4, 11-4, and 11-5.
The Rams wrap up the Vassar Round Robin on Sunday with a 10:30 AM match against Northeastern.
