Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham University junior offensive lineman
Nick Zakelj (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was named first team CoSIDA Academic All-District® it was announced today. He will now advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors.
Zakelj, a Finance major with a 3.64 overall GPA, has started all ten games at left tackle for the Rams this year. He blocks for an offense that is second in the Patriot League in rushing, gaining 143.9 yards/game, and second in scoring, averaging 24.2 points/game.
A three-year starter, Zakelj was named second team All-Patriot League in 2018 when he started all eleven games at left tackle.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors, a student-athlete must have a 3.30 GPA or better and appear in at least 50 percent of the teams' games.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
