Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis squad continued its fall season last weekend by hosting the Fordham Four-in-the-Fall tournament on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts where
Alex Makatsaria won the title in the Becker singles flight.
Makatsaria opened play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Marist's Augusto Gonzalez Bonorino and then advanced to the finals with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over FDU's Niclas Pietsch. Makatsaria won the flight with a 7-6(2), 6-2 victory over Thomas Lake of Army.
Lutwin de Macar also competed in the Becker flight singles, defeating FDU's Andris Gudins, 6-4, 6-2, in the first round before falling to Lake in the second, 7-5, 6-3.
Fabian Mauritzson and
Max Green competed on the Agassi flight singles where Green defeated Pau Grabuleda from St. Francis, 7-6, 7-6(3), in the first round before dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Marist's Lars Schouten. Mauritzson fell to FDU's Teodors Pukse, 5-7, 6-3, 10-3, in the first round.
Finn Kemper competed in the Courier flight singes for the Rans, upending St. Francis' Dennis Sanchez, 6-2, 6-3, before falling to John Oxner of Marist, 6-3, 6-4.
In the Djokovic singles flight,
Steven Duka defeated Stefan Gmijovic from St. Francis, 6-3, 6-4, before falling to Marist's Kian Yazdi, 6-4, 6-3.
In the Edberg singles flight,
Gabriel Mashaal fell to FDU's Taiga Kotama in his first match, 7-5, 6-2, and then fell to Grant Louis from St. Francis in the back draw, 8-5.
In doubles play, Duka and Mashaal won the back draw in the Bryan flight. The Rams teammates opened with a 6-4 loss to Daniel Blasco and Facundo Couso from St. Francis, but then defeated Grant Louis and Tom Just from St. Francis, 6-4, to win the back draw.
Makatsaria and
Jofre Segarra also competed in the Bryan doubles flight, defeating FDU's Andrei Oprizor and Taiga Koyama, 7-6, before falling to Mehdi Dhouib and Eduardo Cabral from FDU, 7-6(6).
In the Ashe doubles flight, Green and Kemper defeated Luis Foix and Dennis Sanchez from St. Francis, 6-2, and then were upended by FDU's Niclas Pietsch and Solans Diaz, 6-4.
Mauritzson and de Macar also competed in the Ashe flight, defeating Army's Stan Liu and Anant Mundra, 6-1, before falling to Pau Grabuleda and Tomas Dirube from St. Francis, 6-3.
The Rams return to action on October 17-20 as they compete in the ITA Regionals in Philadelphia.
