Bronx, N.Y./Hamilton, N.Y. – (January 26, 2019) – After seeing last weekend's action cancelled due to weather, the Fordham squash team returned to action on Saturday with a rare tripleheader, which saw one match at home and then two on the road.
The long day for the Rams began at the Lombardi Center Squash Courts with an 8-1 loss to Bucknell. The lone win for Fordham was a five-game win by
Dylan Panichello at the eighth position. Panichello came back from a two games to one deficit to defeat Max Oliphant, 6-11, 11-3, 11-13, 11-5, and 11-6.
Following the loss, Fordham made its way up to Hamilton, N.Y., for road matches against Colgate and Hamilton, where the Rams rebounded with two wins to improve the team's record to 14-5 on the year.
First, the Rams knocked off Colgate by a score of 8-1, which was followed by a 6-3 victory over Hamilton.
Winthrop Reed IV
Panichello finished off a perfect 3-0 day with an eighth slot win over Colgate's Alex Gellert (11-6, 12-10, 11-4) and a ninth position victory over Hamilton's Nick Randolph (11-8, 11-8, 11-8).
Fordham newcomer
William Douglass picked up his first two wins of his Ram career, defeating Colgate's #1 player Ryan Westman in three games (11-4, 11-4, 11-3) and Hamilton's #2 player Atticus Jones (11-8, 11-8, 11-7).
Justin Deckoff,
Winthrop Reed IV,
Justin Esposito, and
Will Beatrez also won both of their matches against Colgate and Hamilton with the quartet playing #4 through #7 against Colgate and #5 through #8 against Hamilton.
The Fordham squash team won't have much of a rest, as the squad is right back in action on Sunday with matches against Bard and Siena, starting at 10:00 AM. Both matches will be held at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
