Orlando, Fla. - The eighth-seeded Fordham women's tennis team defeated No. 9 Saint Louis 4-1 in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
The Rams started the match taking the doubles point as
Tatiana Grigoryan and
Carolina Sa defeated Alana Bourgeois and Gabriella Papachrisanthou 6-2 at third doubles and
Maia Balce and
Gianna Insogna defeated Alba Salinas and Ariana Rodriguez at the second doubles position.
The Fordham rackets remained hot in singles play as
Whitney Weisberg cruised past Papachrisanthou 6-0, 6-0 in sixth singles, Insogna defeated Rodriguez 6-1, 7-5 in fourth singles and Balce clinched the match at third singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Bourgeois.
Fordham will face top-seeded VCU in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 3 p.m.
