Nevena Kolarevic made her first appearance at the ITA Masters Championship a successful one, winning three matches to advance to the consolation final at the Barnes Tennis Center this weekend.
Â
Kolarevic opened play by falling to McNeese's Salome Fluri, dropping the first set, 6-4, before storming back to take the second, 6-1, before losing the third, 6-1.
Â
Kolarevic moved to the consolation bracket where she defeated Toledo's Jacklynka Scholten in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. She then upended North Florida's Laurie Barendse, battling back to win the second set tiebreaker, 7-6(6), after dropping the first set, 7-5. She then won the match with a 6-3 decision in the third.
Â
Kolarevic then advanced to the consolation finals with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Lillie Murphy from Furman. Unfortunately, she was not able to play in the consolation championship.
Â
"I was really impressed with the grit Nevena showed this weekend," said head coach Michael Sower. "She was battling flu-like symptoms all tournament but kept fighting to make the Consolation final."
