Hartford, Conn. – (February 24, 2018) – The needed a little more work than yesterday's match, but still got the job done, as the Fordham squash team advanced to the Chaffee Cup final at the 2018 CSA Team Championship with an 8-1 win over Denison in Hartford, Conn.
Fordham is now 20-3 on the year.
After six match sweeps yesterday, Fordham had only three on Saturday, led by
Bruce Czachor at the #4 position with a 12-10, 11-9, and 11-5 win over D. Graham Poole, while
Justin Deckoff topped George McLanahan, 11-5, 11-4, and 11-8. The last sweep came from
Will Beatrez at ninth position, defeating Robbie Whitman, 13-11, 11-7, and 11-3.

From there, the Rams picked up three four-game wins and two that went the distance to capture the match.
Peter Yuen started the run of four-game wins with an 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, and 11-7 win over Alvaro Magana at the #2 position, while
Griffin Fitzgerald improved to an incredible 21-1 on the year with an 11-8, 6-11, 12-10, and 12-10 win against Anandita Gupta at fifth position.
Joseph Hughes also earned a four-game win over Daraius Sumariwalla at the seventh slot, 11-9, 11-7, 12-14, and 11-8.
The last two victories came from
John Lennon and
Tommy White at the third and sixth slots respectively. Lennon topped Henry Rosenberg, 11-3, 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, and 11-5, while White came back from a two games to one deficit to outlast Michael Ferrick, 8-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-3, and 11-4.
The Rams move on to the finals of the Chaffee Cup Division of the CSA Team Championship and will face #3 seed NYU, who upset #2 seed Bucknell on Saturday, at 11:30 AM on Sunday.
