Squash Completes Another Weekend Sweep

Rams Post 3-0 Record on the Weekend to Improve to 13-2 Overall

Bard Box Score | Colgate Box Score | NYU Box Score

Bronx, N.Y. – (January 21, 2018) – Another weekend, another clean sweep in the book for the Fordham squash team this weekend at the Lombardi Center Squash Courts.  The Rams finished off a perfect 3-0 weekend on Sunday, defeating NYU, 5-4, after taking down Bard and Colgate by 9-0 scores on Saturday.

The three wins improved Fordham's record to 13-2 on the season, and marked the third time in four weekend series this season that the Rams have finished without a loss.

On Saturday, the Rams kicked off the weekend with a 9-0 win over Bard College.  After 3-game wins by Will Pantle, Bruce Czachor, Tommy White, Joseph Hughes, Justin Deckoff, and Will Beatrez secured the team victory.  It was up to John Lennon, Peter Yuen and Griffin Fitzgerald to keep the shutout intact.

Lennon picked up a four-game win at the #2 position over Aya Maeda, 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, and 11-9, while for Yuen and Fitzgerald both posted come-from-behind five-game wins.  Yuen topped Rhys Nordstrom at the #1 position, 11-7, 2-11, 9-11, 11-9, and 11-6, while Fitzgerald took down Vik Joshi at the #5 slot, 11-13, 12-0, 6-11, 11-3, and 11-9.

Fordham then finished off Saturday with a 9-0 win over Colgate.  The Rams earned two of the nine points via default wins, while the other seven were all three-game sweeps by Yuen, Lennon, Pantle, Czachor, White, Hughes, and Deckoff.

Sunday's match was the toughest test for the Rams, as they met local rival NYU for the second time this season.

The tight match came down to the final match, where Hughes defeated Michael Kumar at the #7 position in three games, 11-3, 11-1, and 11-3, to secure the deciding fifth team win for Fordham.

Deckoff (#8), Fitzgerald (#5), and Pantle (#3) each posted three-game victories with the final win coming from Lennon at the #2 position over Ashish Ramachandran, 11-13, 11-9, 11-2, and 11-6.

The Fordham squash team will next be in action on Saturday, January 27th, when the Rams host Bryant and Bucknell at the Lombardi Squash Courts.
