Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham squash team hosted its first home games of the season at the Lombardi Center Squash Courts this weekend, posting a perfect 3-0 weekend with wins over Duke, Penn State, and NYU.
The three victories put Fordham's record at 10-2 on the season, and extending its win streak to five matches.
The weekend began with a 9-0 win over Duke University on Saturday.
The Rams dominated the match with eight of the nine wins coming in three games, as
Peter Yuen,
Will Pantle,
Bruce Czachor,
Griffin Fitzgerald,
Tommy White,
Joseph Hughes,
Justin Deckoff, and
Will Beatrez all collected wins. The lone match to go longer came at the second position, as Fordham's
John Lennon topped Samir Agadi in four games, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9, and 12-10.
In match two on Saturday, the Rams also ousted Penn State, 9-0.
In what seemed like déjà vu, Fordham once again earned three game wins from the same eight players as it did against Duke. Lennon was taken to the limit in a five-game match against Tomoki Takasawa, but came back from two games down to win his second slot match, 8-11, 11-13, 13-11, 11-5, and 12-10.
Then on Sunday, Fordham completed the weekend sweep with an 8-1 win over NYU. Pantle, Czachor, Fitzgerald, Hughes, and Deckoff each earned their third 3-0 match win at the third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth positions, respectively.
Yuen, White, and Beatrez each needed a little more time to complete their perfect weekend for the Rams. Yuen defeated Bradford Sunderland in four games at first position, 11-9, 6-11, 11-5, and 11-5, while White and Beatrez went the distance for their victories. White came back from two games down to top Linus Kim, 12-14, 7-11, 11-9, 11-4, 12-10, while Beatrez defeated Giles Perkins, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, and 11-6.
The Fordham squash team is now off until January 20
th, when the Rams host Bard College at 9:00 AM and Colgate at 2:00 PM.
