Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Fordham squash team opened it 2017-18 season this weekend at the Hudson Valley Team Tournament, hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Rams finished the weekend with a perfect start, going 4-0, with wins over Vassar, Swarthmore, Lafayette, and Boston University.
Fordham began the tournament on Saturday with a 9-0 win over host Vassar. The Rams had a dominant performance, as eight of the nine matches were won in three games. Fordham returnees

Will Pantle (11-0, 11-1, 11-3),
Bruce Czachor (11-2, 11-2, 11-0),
Joseph Hughes (11-1, 11-1, 11-0), and
Will Beatrez (11-2, 11-1, 11-0) were among the winners, as well as newcomers
Griffin Fitzgerald (11-4, 11-6, 11-6),
Tommy White (11-1, 11-0, 11-0), and
Justin Deckoff (11-1, 11-1, 11-1).
The lone match to go longer than three games for at the second slot, as
John Lennon came back from a 2-1 game deficit to defeat Mathieu Rizk in five games, 8-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, and 11-2.
The Rams then finished day one with an 8-1 team win over Swarthmore College. Fordham once again had an excellent run with all eight wins coming in three games. Pantle (11-2, 11-3, 11-2), Czachor (11-3, 11-3, 11-1), Fitzgerald (11-3, 11-3, 11-2), White (11-0, 11-0, 11-1), Hughes (11-0, 11-2, 11-1), Deckoff (11-1, 11-0, 11-2), and Beatrez (11-0, 11-4, 11-2) each earned their second straight three-game wins, while Lennon picked up his first over Nate Sandalow-Ash (11-4, 11-7, 11-3).
On Sunday, day two kicked off with Fordham winning an early morning match over Lafayette, 9-0. The Leopards only had eight competitors, so the Rams began the match with a 1-0 lead with a default win. Each of the other eight matches were 3-0 wins for the Rams, leaving a perfect weekend in sight.
Fordham completed that perfect set with an 8-1 win over Boston University in the final and toughest match of the tournament, as three matches went the distance. Two of those went Fordham's way, as Yuen defeated Hunter Chun at the #1 position, 11-7, 6-11, 8-11, 11-5, and 11-9, while Czachor came back from two games down to defeat Joel Lavoie at the #4 position, 1-11, 4-11, 11-9, 14-12, and 11-4.
The Fordham squash team will next be in action at the Navy Round Robin in Annapolis, Maryland, November 10-12. The Rams will have matches against Navy, Georgetown, Haverford, and Johns Hopkins.
