Annapolis, Md. – (November 17, 2017) – Behind a season-high five goals from junior
Ian Watson, the 20
th-ranked Fordham water polo team defeated Johns Hopkins, 11-9, in the quarterfinals of the MAWPC Championship, held in Annapolis, Maryland.
With the win, Fordham improved to 18-10 on the season and advance to the MAWPC semifinals on Saturday.
Watson quickly gave the Rams a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, notching a pair of markers early in the period, while late tallies by
Magnus Sims and
Ethan Vandeventer kept Fordham ahead by two, 4-2, at the end of the first.
After trading two goals each in the second, Fordham extended the lead to 9-5 with a three-goal third quarter. John Hopkins closed to with one to start the frame, but Fordham responded with three straight goals from Watson and two from
Jake Miller-Tolt.

The Rams added to the lead with the first two goals of the fourth quarter, making it an 11-5 score.
Phillip Wang scored an extra-man goal, while Miller-Tolt netted a penalty shot goal for his third tally of the game.
The six-goal margin was too much for Johns Hopkins to overcome, eventually falling by an 11-9 final.

Alex Jahns made seven stops for Fordham.
The Rams now advance to the MAWPC semifinals on Saturday, November 18
th, where the team will face George Washington, starting at 6:00 PM.
