New Rochelle, N.Y. – Four Rams won multiple events on Wednesday night, as the Fordham swimming & diving teams swept their meet against Iona at the Hynes Pool in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Fordham women posted a 165-60 win over the Gaels, while the men downed Iona 144-78.
Three of the four dual event winners on Wednesday came in the women's competition, as
Erin McBride,
Nele Albers, and
Chloe Mitchell led the way for the Rams. McBride captured first in the 100 (53.89) and 200 (1:55.03) freestyle events, while Mitchell took the top spot in the 500 (5:15.96) and 1000 (10:43.59) freestyle events. Albers won the 200 individual medley (2:12.55) and the 200 breaststroke (2:25.55) events.
Aside from that trio, five other individual won events on the women's side.
Tara Brunner was first in the 50 freestyle (24.26) with
Kalena Laurent taking the top spot in the 200 butterfly (2:07.61) and newcomer
Paulina Watson winning the 200 backstroke (2:07.97). In diving,
Wendy Espina-Esquivel had the top score in the one-meter dive at 279.45, while
Stephanie Kerkeles scored 267.45 to win the three-meter competition.
In women's relay action, the 400 medley relay team of
Morgan Fairclough,
Amelia Bullock,
Megan Polaha, and Brunner placed first in 3:59.44, while the 200 freestyle relay of Brunner, Bullock, McBride, and
Samantha McDonald finished in the top spot in 1:38.33.
In the men's competition, diver
Christopher Craig earned first place points in both diving events, posting scores of 211.05 (1M) and 258.45 (3M).

Six other Fordham men won events in addition to Craig.
Liam Semple started those wins in the 200 freestyle (1:43.75) event, followed by
Travis Monahan in the 50 freestyle (21.50).
Connor Griffin posted the winning time in the 200 individual medley (2:00.97), while
Chris Viera (200 Fly – 1:55.08),
Joseph Vizza (500 Free – 4:41.73), and
Isiah Magsino (200 Breast – 2:11.49) rounded out the individual winners.
In relay action, the 400 medley relay team consisting of Magsino, Monahan,
Joe Mercurio, and Vizza won in a time of 3:27.18, while the 200 freestyle team of Monahan, Mercurio,
Kevin Berry, and Vizza taking first place in a season-best time of 1:25.37.
The Rams once again won't have much time to recover as the team competes for the third time in eight day on Saturday, January 28
th, as Fordham hosts Massachusetts at the Messmore Aquatic Center for Senior Day, beginning at 1:00 PM.
