Fordham Athletics Announces Promotions

Two Coaches and two administrators earn promotions

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham University director of athletics Dave Roach announced promotions for four members of the department today. Rodney Crawford has been promoted from assistant basketball coach to associate head men's basketball coach, Tim Cary has been elevated from assistant football coach to assistant head football coach, Greg Marmaros has been promoted from director of football operations to assistant athletic director for football operations and Clare Berenato has been elevated from women's basketball administrative assistant to director of women's basketball administration and special assistant to the head coach.

Crawford, who joined the Fordham staff last year after three years as an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky with current Fordham head coach Jeff Neubauer, begins his second season on the Rams' staff in 2016-2017. He was a main factor in Fordham's success in 2015-2016 as the Rams went 17-14 overall, 8-10 in the Atlantic 10, and they appeared in the 2016 CollegeInsiders.com Tournament (CIT), Fordham's first postseason appearance since 1992. The 17 wins were the most since 2006-2007 while the eight conference wins were the most since 2006-2007. The Rams went 14-5 in the Rose Hill Gym, the most home wins ever in school history.

A defensive-centric coach, Crawford helped the 2015-2016 Rams rank second in the Atlantic 10 and tenth in the nation in steals/game (8.5) while also ranking 14th nationally in turnovers forced/game (15.74) and 24th with 263 total steals, the fourth best single season total in school history.

Cary begins the eighth year of his second stint at Fordham in 2016 where he will serve as co-defensive coordinator for the third straight year. He previously was the Rams' defensive backs coach in the fall of 2006 and the outside linebackers coach in the spring of 2007 before spending three years at the University of Connecticut.

Last fall, Cary co-coordinated a defense that led the Patriot League and was tenth in the NCAA FCS in turnovers gained (29) and fumbles recovered (13) while also leading the league and ranking 17th in the nation in passes intercepted (16). Individually the Rams had four defensive players named All-Patriot League.

Marmaros, who spent the past three as the director of football operation at Fordham, will expand on his role this year. He is responsible for day to day management of the football program, team travel, budget management, summer camps, coordinating the football alumni, supervising office staff, interns and volunteers and managing pre-season training camp. He also is charged with recruiting administration and coordinating official and unofficial visits for student-athletes.

A 2012 graduate of the University of Connecticut where he received a degree in Sports Administration, Marmaros served as a football student manager for three years from 2008-2010, facilitating the daily setup and breakdown of the practice field with other student managers and helping to setup drills as well as maintaining players' equipment and accessories for games and practices.

Berenato is entering her third year with the women's basketball program, serving as the administrative assistant last winter after spending the 2014-15 campaign as the assistant director of basketball operations.

A 2013 graduate of Seton Hill University, Berenato arrived at Fordham after serving as an assistant coach at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa.  With the Falcons, Berenato worked primarily with post players, while also helping develop practice plans, in-game strategy and scouting reports.
