Track & Field Opens Competition at 2016 A-10 Outdoor Championship

Fordham’s Jonathan Annelli Wins 3,000 Meter Steeplechase, while teammate Brian Coook Takes Second

The 2016 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship got underway on Saturday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia.
 
Through day one, George Mason leads the 13-team women's competition with 40 points, while Rhode Island holds the top spot on the 11-team men's side with 68 points.  Currently, the Fordham men are fourth, while the women are 13th.
 
The Fordham men had three scorers on day one, while having two runners qualify for Sunday final events.  Leading the way for the Rams was Jonathan Annelli and Brian Cook, who registered a 1-2 finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.  Annelli won the event to take First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in a time of 9:01.62, while Cook earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 with his top time of the season in 9:03.72.
 
Fordham's final scorer on day one was Nicholas Regan, as he placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 182' 7".
 
In addition to the Rams that scored, Louis Santelli and Jordan Allen both qualified for Sunday finals.  Santelli qualified fifth in the 800 meter run with a season-best time of 1:51.39, while Allen qualified third in the 200 meter dash, as he clocked in with a season-best time of 21.51 seconds.  Allen almost made a second final, as he took tenth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.96 seconds.

Other competitors for the men's team on day one included Michael Campbell (23rd – 1:56.51) and Patrick Dineen (29th – 1:59.59) in the 800 meters, Ryan Riviere in the pole vault (9th – 13' 11 ¼"), and Jake Duckworth in the 10,000 meter run (19th – 33:02.91).
 
On the women's side, Fordham's best finish came from Danielle Rowe, who finished 13th in the 800 meter run in a season-best time of 2:13.57, ahead of teammates Leah Hickey (30th – 2:24.50) and Merisa Wright (31st – 2:26.90).
 
Morgan Menzzasalma also finished 13th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.70, as did Stephanie Leo in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:54.49).  Laurel Fisher was right behind Leo in the steeplechase, taking 14th in 12:01.73.
 
Other Rams competing on Saturday included Christina Perrier (22nd – 59.76) and Aidan Moroz (23rd – 59.79) in the 400 meter dash, Laura Jaeger in the 200 meter dash (17th – 26.29), and Maiya Larsen in the 10,000 meter run (16th - 39:09.05).
 
The Atlantic 10 Championship concludes on Sunday.
