Chase Edmonds and Joe Moorhead Honored at 82nd Block F Awards Dinner

Sophomore named male athlete of the year, Moorhead coach of the year

Bronx, N.Y. - As the 2015-2016 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 82nd annual Block F Awards Dinner in the Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.

Among those honored were Chase Edmonds, who was the recipient of the Vincent T. Lombardi Award as Fordham's top male student-athlete, Samantha Clark and Jessica Widmann, co-recipients of the Claire and Jack Hobbs Award as Fordham's top female student-athletes and former head football coach Joe Moorhead, who was named Fordham's Coach of the Year.

The Vincent T. Lombardi Award is presented to the Male Athlete of the Year for distinguished athletic achievements in the winning tradition of Vince Lombardi. The award honors the memory of one of Fordham's famed Seven Blocks of Granite, who is considered to be one of football's greatest coaches.

Edmonds, the 2015 Patriot League and ECAC Offensive Player of the Year who also finished fourth in the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year voting, continued his amazing exploits this fall, rushing 251 times for 1,648 yards and 20 touchdowns while also catching 31 passes for 383 yards and five scores. The consensus 2015 All-American led the Patriot League and was third in the NCAA FCS in rushing yards and led the league and was fourth in the NCAA FCS in rushing yards/game (137.3) and rushing touchdowns. Edmonds led the league and was fourth in the NCAA FCS in all-purpose yards/game (184.18) and was second in the nation in scoring (12.5 points/game).

Against Lehigh on October 24, Edmonds set the Patriot League and school single game rushing record with 347 yards on 31 carries with three touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 55 yards and a score in the game to bring his all-purpose yards total to 402, breaking his own Patriot League record of 385 all-purpose yards set in last year's NCAA Championship game at New Hampshire.

Over his career, Edmonds has rushed for 3,486 yards and 43 touchdowns, both second best on the Fordham career lists.

Moorhead, who won the Iron Major award as the Fordham Coach of the Year for the second time over the past four years, opened the season with 18 new starters but wouldn't allow his Rams to use that as an excuse. Instead, they defeated Army West Point, Fordham's second win over an NCAA FBS program over the past three years, in the season opener.

Under Moorhead's leadership, the Rams went 9-2 in the regular season and received a bid to play in the NCAA FCS championships for a third straight year.
