Last Time OutThe Rams swept the Colonials in our nation's capital for the team's second-best conference start in team history, behind 2014's 13-1 start to league play. Fordham dropped the hosts, 3-1, in a lone Saturday contest with junior
Lindsay Mayer driving all three runs in, including the eventual game-winning run on a RBI double to left center in the fifth inning. Mayer also earned save number two of her career with three one-hit innings of relief behind
Lauren Quense, who picked up her 10
th win with four innings of one-run ball.
Â
Game one of Sunday's doubleheader was yet another extra-inning victory for the Rams, just the third already in conference play. Fordham led, 6-0, after just two innings but allowed the Colonials to chip away and eventually tie the game in the bottom of the seventh on a one-hit two-run single. Mayer, despite allowing the tying runs in that frame, eventually garnered her fourth win of the season when junior
Ally Vergona ripped a double to left to score both
Stephanie Ferri and
Sydney Canessa in the ninth.
Â
In game two, George Washington claimed its first lead of the weekend, 2-0, after the third inning, but the Rams scored 10 unanswered runs to eventually cap the sweep. Fordham tied the game on an error and a wild pitch before the offense exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning. That frame included featured an incredible four doubles to begin the inning plus another two-bagger and a home run mixed in.
