ResultsBoston -- The Fordham men's and women's track & field teams saved their best for last with two finals qualifying times at Saturday's ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center. Both qualifying times came in the respective 4x800 meter relays. The Rams enjoyed season-best times across the board, also competing in the men's 400 meter and men's distance medley relay.
The underclassmen quartet of
Fritz Heinrich,
Brian Cook,
Louis Santelli, and
Sean Phillips finished second overall and first in their heat with a time of 7:35.64. It was just the second time this season in which all four runners competed in the same race.
The distance medley relay team of
Nik O'Brien,
Jared Benn,
Ryan McGann, and
Thomas Slattery finished just two seconds and one spot shy of qualifying for tomorrow's finals with a 10:03.54 time and 10th place finish. Benn also competed in the 400 meter and finished 20th with a career-best 48.97. Benn's time was .86 seconds away from the school record.
On the women's side, the foursome of
Merissa Wright,
Kate McCormack,
Shanna Heaney, and
Danielle Rowe finished fifth overall in their 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:35.75. The four have competed in all three indoor 4x800 relays the team has participated in this season.
Tomorrow brings the finals for the two 4x800 meter relays plus the finals of the women's distance medley relay. After that, the teams head to the NCAA Championships next weekend.
