Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University associate vice president of student affairs for athletic alumni relations and external affairs/athletic director emeritus Frank McLaughlin has been named to the 2016 ECAC Hall of Fame class it was announced on Thursday. He will officially be inducted on April 15, 2016 at the ECAC Hall of Fame Gala and Induction Ceremony to be held at the Matrix Conference & Banquet Center in Danbury, Conn.
Honorees have been selected for outstanding achievements, service, dedication, commitment and contributions to the ECAC and its member institutions. McLaughlin will join 14 others, including former Fordham associate athletic director and Fordham alum, Gene Doris, and former Patriot League Commissioner Carolyn Femovich, in the second ECAC Hall of Fame class.
"We are excited to induct this group of people into the ECAC Hall of Fame," said President & CEO Dr. Kevin T. McGinniss. "These individuals have been incredible assets to the ECAC over the years and will now be recognized for their exceptional accomplishments and influence on intercollegiate athletics."
Frank and Susan McLaughlinMcLaughlin has been at Fordham since taking over as the athletic director at his alma mater in 1985. After serving as the athletic director for 13 years, McLaughlin was promoted to executive director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation in the spring of 1998. In 2013 he was named to his current position.
During McLaughlin's time as athletic director, the Rams experienced success both on and off the playing fields. Under his guidance, Fordham won 26 conference championships. Academically, Fordham annually ranked among the leaders in the number of student-athletes named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and was routinely among the national leaders in NCAA Academic Progress Rates.
Prior to his return to his alma mater, McLaughlin served as the head men's basketball coach at Harvard University for eight years. In his final season he compiled a 15-9 mark, and currently ranks fourth in seasons at Harvard and fifth in wins in Crimson history.
McLaughlin was inducted into the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. He was also voted to the Catholic High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1988 and was one of 50 sports figures to be honored at the inaugural Irish Sports 50 awards presented by the Irish Voice newspaper in 2013.
McLaughlin and his wife, Susan, have three daughters: Tara Marie (a 1999 Fordham graduate), Mary Heather, (a 2002 Fordham graduate) and Colleen Patrice (a 2005 Fordham graduate). The McLaughlins reside in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.
