Squash Hosts Home Round Robin Affair

Rams Top Colgate and BU; Fall to Lehigh in Tight Contest

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham squash team had their first home matches of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Lombardi Center Squash Courts, posting wins over Colgate and Boston University, while falling to Lehigh.
 
The wins improved Fordham's record to 3-6 on the season.
 
In match one of the day, Fordham topped Colgate by a score of 6-3.
 
The Rams took advantage of a short-handed Raiders' squad, picking up victories at the #1, #3, #4, and #7 positions to go with a pair of default wins in the final two spots.
 
Fordham's Peter Yuen earned a four-game win at the top position, defeating Matthew Swain, 11-4, 11-8, 6-11, and 11-7, followed by a third slot victory by John Lennon over Ryan Wetsman, 14-12, 3-11, 11-6, and 11-7.  Jimmy Shinnick then took down Philip Brauer in three games (11-9, 11-4, 11-9), while George Mead won a five-game thriller over J.T. Mehr, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 11-8.
 
In match two, the Rams were just edged out by the Lehigh Mountainhawks, 5-4.

Jimmy Shinnick was one of two Rams to go 3-0 on Saturday.

 
The Rams got off to a solid start, winning four of the top five matches, which included the second win of the day for Yuen, Lennon and Shinnick.  Yuen defeated Gordon Newell at the #1 position, 11-2, 11-2, and 11-2, while Lennon topped Colin Hussey at the #4 position, 11-3, 11-5, and 11-2.  Shinnick's second win was at the #5 slot over Jack Littlefield in three games (11-9, 11-9, 11-6).  The final win out of the top five matches came from Bruce Czachor, as he edged out Corey Bancroft in three games at the #3 slot, 11-5, 11-5, and 11-4.
 
Fordham however could not clinch the match, as the Mountainhawks won each of the last four matches.  Three of the four matches saw Fordham win the opening game, but were unable to hold on.  The deciding match came at the #8 position with Joe Mirri coming back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Mead, 5-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-5, and 11-8.
 
In the final match of the day, Fordham pulled out an 8-1 win over the Boston University Terriers.
 
The Rams started the match up 2-0 with a pair of default wins, and then saw the #2 through #7 slots all win.  Lennon and Shinnick completed a perfect 3-0 day, as Lennon defeated Julian Lee in three games at the #4 position (11-8, 11-7, 11-7), while Shinnick topped Fred He at the #5 position in three games (11-5, 11-1, 11-1).  Will Pantle earned his first win of the season at the #2 slot over Parker Tonissi (11-4, 11-4, 11-4), with Czachor (def. Joel LaVoie, 11-7, 11-2, 10-12, 11-5), Peter Vergara (def. Shrey Shah, 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, 11-4), and Neil Patel (def. Cameron Bonhurst, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8) posting wins at the #2, #6, and #7 slots, respectively.
 
The Fordham squash team will next be in action on January 21st, as the Rams host another round robin day with matches against NYU, Bucknell, and Tufts.
