INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report on Division I student-athletes released on Tuesday demonstrates that the student-athletes at Fordham University are true student-athletes, ranking among the leaders in graduating success rate. Fordham's GSR of 95 in this year's report ranks the University tied for 26th in the nation and tied for second in the Atlantic 10.

"It's a testament to the student-athletes at Fordham that they place as much emphasis on the classroom as they do on the playing fields," said Fordham Director of Athletics Dave Roach.  "Men's soccer is an example of this dual emphasis. The program just won its second Atlantic 10 Conference championship in the past three years on Sunday and still maintains a 100 percent graduation rate. All of the faculty, coaches, staff and academic advisors at Fordham share in this success."

Nine Fordham programs recorded a perfect 100. Joining men's soccer were men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, men's track and field, women's rowing, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and women's track and field. All Fordham athletic teams recorded a GSR that was higher than the federal graduation average.

Fordham's 95 percent GSR is the highest ever for the Rams since the inception of the GSR reporting system in 2005 and an increase from last year's 93. Fordham has demonstrated an increase in its GSR in each of the past four years.

Division I student-athletes across the country who entered college in 2009 earned their degrees at a rate of 86 percent, tying last year's all-time highest rate.

"Division I student-athletes have attained extraordinary academic success over the last 15 years. They continue to graduate at rates equal to or higher than the student body," said NCAA President Mark Emmert.  "Every time standards rise, college athletes meet the challenge and continue to do well, especially minority student-athletes who outpace their peers in the general student body by an enormous amount."
