Annapolis, Md. – The Fordham squash team took part in the Navy Round Robin this past weekend in Annapolis, Maryland. The Rams had a rough go, dropping all four matches and falling to 1-5 on the season.
Round Robin play began with Fordham falling to Navy, 9-0, on Friday night. The Midshipmen swept all eight matches in straight sets with the final point coming via default. The closest match for the Rams came at the #3 position, where
John Lennon fell to Dylan Sweeney, 11-1, 11-7, and 11-8.
On Saturday, Fordham started the day with a 8-1 loss to Washington. The Rams earned a point at the #4 position, as
Jimmy Shinnick defeated Claudia Regio, 11-8, 11-5, 14-16, and 11-9. Fordham almost got a second point in the #2 slot, as Bruce Czachor took Andres Yepez the distance, but fell 11-9, 4-11, 9-11, 11-9, and 11-9.
In the second match on Saturday, Fordham had its best showing of the Round Robin matches, but still came up short, dropping a 5-4 decision to Johns Hopkins. Fordham earned victories at the #1-4 slots, but could not get the all-important fifth match win.
Peter Yuen won at the #1 position over Phil Shin, 11-7, 11-7, and 11-8, while Czachor topped Rahul Reddy in three games (11-8, 13-11, and 11-5). Lennon picked up his first win of the weekend, defeating Mick Lim in five games (11-5, 5-11, 11-8, 10-12, and 11-7) with Shinnick earning his second victory over Preston Coffin in straight games (11-5, 11-6, 11-5).
The final match of the Navy Round Robin was on Sunday, where the Rams fell to Georgetown, 8-1. The lone point for Fordham came from Yuen at the #1 slot, as he took down Nicholas Bowe in five games, 11-9, 4-11, 9-11, 11-5, and 11-5.
The Fordham squash team will next be in action on December 3
rd, when Fordham hosts a tripleheader against NYU, Lehigh, and Johns Hopkins.
