Patriot League ReleaseBronx, N.Y. – Fordham sophomore running back
Chase Edmonds has picked up the 2015 season right where he left off the 2014 campaign as he was named the NCAA FCS National Player of the Week, the STATS NCAA FCS National Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the Beyond Sports Madness FCS Offensive Player of the Week and a College Sporting News National All-Star as well as the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week today.
Against Army on Friday night, Edmonds opened his season by rushing 20 times for 126 yards and three scores and also catching six passes for 140 yards, as he led the Rams to a 37-35 win, Fordham's second win over an NCAA FCS program over the past three years. His third touchdown from 10 yards out put the Rams up 37-29 with 12:04 to play, a lead they would not relinquish. Edmonds had 65 of Fordham's 82 yards on the go-ahead drive (31 receiving/34 rushing).
Edmonds' receptions and receiving yards marks each were career highs, and the 140 receiving yards were the most by a Patriot League running back since Bucknell's A.J. Kizekai had the same mark against Lafayette in 2009.
Fordham was the first FCS team to beat an FBS opponent this season and one of four on the opening weekend.
Edmonds, the Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, is named Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the third time after earning the award twice as a freshman.
Last year, Edmonds received the Jerry Rice Award as the NCAA FCS Rookie of the Year as well as All-America and Patriot League Rookie of the Year accolades.
The Rams return to action on Saturday night, September 12, as they host the Villanova Wildcats on Jack Coffey Field at 6:00 p.m.
